Danny Mercer - Preaching Minister
Danny, along with his wife, Heidi, and their four children came to join us in October of 2007. Danny received a Master of Divinity
degree from Abilene Christian University and is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry degree. Danny’s primary area of
ministry is preaching and worship, leadership, and ministry coordination. Danny’s sermons are relevant to today’s culture and deeply
rooted in Scripture. Danny and Heidi are great encouragers and lead others through personal relationships. Danny has preached in
Abilene, TX and Chelmsford, MA.

Mike Ross - Pastoral Care
Has been an active member in this fellowship since 1975. Mike served as an elder for 17 years and
has been on the ministry staff since 1995. He and Celeste have been married since 1968 and raised
two children, Sonia and Jon, in this church fellowship. Mike is called to encourage, to teach and
to enable mature growth as teacher, counselor, facilitator and ministry leader. He helps with
community outreach, connections and member involvement.

Ron Cox - Elder
Ron Cox and his wife Susan have been members of the Friendswood Church of Christ since moving to
Friendswood in 1990. They have two children. Emily and her husband Terry Richards live in
Webster and Tim lives in Friendswood. They have one grandchild, Courtney. Ron received a
degree in Marketing from Abilene Christian University in 1972 and received a masters of science
degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1981. Ron and Susan live at 120 St. Andrews in
Friendswood.

Scott Jackson - Elder
His parents Norman and Evelyn Jackson, dedicated to the Lord Jesus, raised Scott Jackson in the ways
of the LORD. Abilene Christian University graduated him with a BA in Bible. Sandy Freeland married
him while they were college seniors. University of Houston graduated him with a BS in Engineering.
Sandy and Scott have two daughters, Lori and Sondra. For 14 years the family was part of what was
the Sharpstown church of Christ in Southwest Houston. They have been part of the Friendswood church
of Christ since 1993.

Tom Kirklin - Elder
Tom has been married to Chris for 29 years; they are native Houstonians. They have three children-Courtney McGinn married to
Kyle; Jeff Kirklin married to Lindsay Leigh; Lindsay Harrell married to Brad. They have four grandchildren. Tom has served
as an elder at Friendswood Church of Christ for 10 years. He works in the mobile crane industry.

Forrest Norman - Elder
Forrest Norman and his wife Gayle became members of Friendswood Church of Christ in 1973. And with the exception of a
couple of two short periods living away, they have continued to be members. They have two children, Janice Norman who
lives in Seabrook Texas and Steve Norman and his wife Angie who live in Alvin Texas. They have eight grand children and
one great grand child. Forrest received a BS degree in industrial engineering from Texas A & M in 1971. He worked in the
petro chemical industry most of his career retiring in 1998 from Aramco Services Co. Forrest and Gayle live at 515 CR 193,
Alvin TX.

Jim Smothermon - Elder
Jim and Nancy Smothermon have lived in Friendswood and have been members of this church since December 1966.
They have two children who live in the Friendswood/Clear Lake area. Lori and her husband Dustin Callaway have three
children, Holly, Zachary and Conner. Dave and his wife Angie have one son, Carson. Jim graduated from Texas A & M
University in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Navy after graduation and worked for General
Dynamics in Ft. Worth before joining the space program at the Johnson Space Center in 1965. He retired in June 1995 after a
30 year career with NASA. Since retiring he and his wife have been involved with several volunteer ministries in the Houston
area, including Meals on Wheels, local nursing home resident assistance care, the Impact Church distribution center, and
taking care of their grandchildren and an occasional round of golf.
